The Opel Rallye was made from 1967-1974. I know because I had a 1967. It was red with a flat black hood, black stripes and an 1100 cc four with twin solex carbs. As I remember, it put out an amazing 67 HP>

Hello david, I love ur comment, very nice 2 see you enjoyed the car that much! allthough I dont drive a manta myself (I drive an C-kadett city) over here (netherlands) the a-manta & b-manta is still a pretty common car (for a classic that is) its nice 2 see that you americans dont necessarily want 2 drive big muscle cars :P

This is a very accurate history of the Manta. I owned 4 of these fun cars at various times, the 1900cc Manta was rated at 75HP in the USA, due to a very low 7.6:1 compression ratio. Typically the car could achieve 23 - 25 miles per US gallon of fuel. The tests of that era put the 0 - 60 MPH time at 12.7 seconds. The Ford Capri was the big competitor and was more than a match, but these cars handled beautifully and to my eyes had a better appearance. A 1972 Rallye cost $2,800 plus tax and license, making it an extraordinarily good value. I drove the car that I purchase new until 1985 covering 135,000 miles. The only major failure was the rear axle input bearing, but that was readily solved with a new axle from a wrecked car. The front suspension was a double A arm and was used in a Lotus of that era, it was that good. The achilles heal was the lower arm bushing. This would lead to increasingly negative camber on the front wheels, giving it that tuner look! Water pumps failed on such a regular annual basis, that my wife and I could change one in 50 minutes complete. These cars were very serviceable. There are very few left, only one in daily use on the San Francisco peninsula, that I am aware of.
