The Lamborghini LM003 was a very short-lived offroad prototype project designed and built by Lamborghini in an attempt to meet military needs. It was virtually identical to the LM002, but instead of the V12 Lamborghini engine, it utilized a 5 cylinder, 150 bhp (112 kW), 3.6L turbocharged diesel engine provided by VM Motori. The engine was determined to be entirely insufficient to power the 2600 kg (5700 lb) vehicle and the project was abandoned.
Another model that may have been dubbed the LM003 was developed when Lamborghini was under the ownership of Megatech. They realized that the LM002 was a steady, and consistent seller, so wanted to bring it back into production with an updated design. It was to have been named the Borneo or Galileo, to differentiate it with the previous LM003. The idea was taken to SZ Design, an offshoot of Zagato, but it never went past a few concept drawings that looked vaguely similar to a modern Range Rover.

Please send me any information about this car, I will posted whit the source to came from.

Thank you.

The Lamborghini Countach was a mid-engined sports car produced by Italian automaker Lamborghini from 1974 to 1989. Its design both pioneered and popularized the wedge-shaped, sharply angled look popular in many high performance sports cars. The “cabin-forward” design concept, which pushes the passenger compartment forward in order to accommodate a larger engine, was also popularized by the Countach.

1985 Lamborghini Countach

The Countach was the predecessor to the very successful Miura. The body was designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, and given a mid-engine layout in two-door coupe configuration. It featured an attractive and curvaceous body with elegant lines and fitted with modern mechanical components and technology. The engine was mounted longitudinally and replaced the transverse layout of its predecessor. The transmission was now fitted in front of the engine offering excellent weight distribution. Power was sent to the rear wheels through a driveshaft, which ran in its own tunnel in the engine’s sump. Top speed was achieved at nearly 200 mph with zero-to-sixty taking under six-seconds.

The Countach was first shown to the public at the 1971 Geneva Motorshow. It was dubbed the Countach LP500, for its five-liter powerplant. It was finished in an eye-catching bright sunflower yellow and had small air intake ducts. The production version, though similar in design, was a vast departure from the prototype version. The car customers received did not have the five-liter engine or the monocoque chassis. Instead, a four-liter derivative engine was mounted inside a tubular frame. Though the engine was smaller in displacement size, it was much more reliable and durable. The 5-liter unit had failed initial testing and was destroyed during a high speed test session. Part of the issue was the cars poor ability to keep the engine cool, which eventually resulted in larger air ducts.

The prototype car was destroyed in a European crash test demonstration. A sad end to a unique vehicle that could only be described as ‘priceless’ in the modern era.

The Countach had elegant lines that ran from the front to the rear in classic Bertone style. The only things disrupting those lines were the vehicles cooling vents, which were necessary to provide air to the engine. The doors opened in scissor-like fashion and added to the ambiance and exotic nature of the vehicle.

Two years after the Geneva Motorshow debut, the production version was ready for the customers. The cars were called the ‘Countach LP400′, again, in reference to the vehicles engine displacement size. The car remained in production for two decades; during that time five different versions and iterations of the Countach were offered. By 1982, a suitable five-liter engine had been created and could be found in the vehicles engine bay; three years later the engine evolved again, being given four-valve heads and increasing horsepower to 455 for the European versions.

The first individual to receive a Countach was an Australian who took procession in 1974. D. Milne was a member of the Australian Defense Force Transport Corps.

1985 Lamborghini Countach

This car, along with most of the other cars built by Lamborghini had one purpose: To beat Ferrari. Mr. Ferruccio Lamborghini, a tractor manufacturer, had an argument with Enzo Ferrari. He had bought a Ferrari and had a complaint with the car. When he approached Enzo Ferrari with his comments, Enzo replied that the problem was with the driver and not with the car. He also remarked that Ferruccio was just a tractor maker and did not understand real engineering. The result was a super car dynasty.

The first series of Countach’s were known as the LP400 followed by the LP400S in 1978. The engine was further increased in 1982 to 4.8 liters and the model designation changed to LP500s. The LP500S was Lamborghini’s response to Ferrari’s ‘Boxer’ car, the 365 GT4. It was called ‘Boxer’ because it used a horizontally opposed engine which resembled a boxer boxing. Ferrari’s response to the LP500S was the Testarossa. Once again, Lamborghini answered by creating the Quattrovalvole that produced 455 horsepower.

Electric fans and large ducts located behind the door helped with keeping the mid-engine V-12 cool. By placing the engine in the middle, better handling was achieved through better weight distribution. The body was made entirely of alloy except for the fiberglass doors.

Trunk space was limited. Both the front and the rear had minimal compartments for storage.

A rear spoiler was optional and provided extra down force and stability. It also looked good as well.

In 1991, after twenty years of production, the Countach was laid to rest to make room for the new Diablo. There were 157 examples of the LP400 produced; 237 of the LP400S. 321 of the LP500S were created and 676 examples of the LP500S QV. The 25th Anniversary edition had some of the highest production figures of all the Countach’s, second to the LP500S QV, with 650 examples being production.

Before Murciealago, there was Diablo. Billed as “Italy’s other supercar,” the Diablo replaced the legendary Countach model in 1990. The Diablo benefited mightily from input by the engineering department at Chrysler, Lamborghini’s corporate parent until 1994. Not only did the Diablo deliver on the promise of a 200 mph top speed, reportedly it is far easier to live with day-to-day than its Countach predecessor. Lamborghini’s first vehicles were tractors, as company founder Ferrucio Lamborghini filled the acute needs of Italian farmers recovering from World War II. The first Lamborghini sports car, the 350GTV, debuted in 1963. After passing through several hands, the company is now solely owned by Audi AG. Besides the production models, Lamborghini engines have powered Formula One race cars and offshore powerboats.

October 5th, 1897. A fighting bull named Murcielago takes stage with matador Rafael Molina ‘Largertijo’ in front of an Spanish crowd. A viscous confrontation ensues. Murcielago takes over 24 spears and manages to continue fighting on. Astonishingly, the animal’s life is spared and Murcielago is declared one of the the strongest bulls of all time. Murcielago went on to father a formidable line of bulls that extents right down to present day.

It’s Mercielago’s enduring ferocity that Lamborghini offers with the release of their latest supercar. Named after the fighting bull, this trapezoid-shaped car lends styling cues from the previous Lamborghini’s, with better performance and drivability than ever before.

2002 Lamborghini Murcielago - www.robson.m3rlin.org

The highlight of the car is two rear wings which seamlessly pop up for engine cooling. Not only does this increase the aesthetic value of the car while at a standstill, it functions as a dynamic system for cooling efficiency. Lamborghini calls this system the Variable Air-Flow Cooling System. VACS uses active intakes with adjustable aperture up to 20 degrees that suit the driving conditions.

The VACS is complemented by a second dynamic aero device. The rear spoiler changes up to 70 degrees at 220kph to offer stability at high speeds. When the spoiler reaches the its open position, the aerodynamic drag increases from 0.33 Cd to 0.36 Cd, a worthwhile trade off to ensure an aerodynamic equilibrium at all speeds.

The 6.2 liter V12 engine an evolution of the Diablo 6.0 power plant. The highlight of the new engine is two new variable systems. Both Variable Valve Timing & Variable-Geometry Intake systems aid in engine efficiency and a square power band.

A first for the marque, the Murcielago comes equipped with a 6-Speed Manual. The midship layout of the transmission is retained from previous Diablo & Countach design.

Also like the Diablo, the Murcielago features a permanent four-wheel drive with a center viscous coupling. This layout yields an active control system: excess torque on the primary-rear axle is automatically transferred to the front axle if needed. This maintains ideal traction at all times.

2002 Lamborghini Murcielago - www.robson.m3rlin.org

The Lamborghini is a superlative car. With mechanical structure that requires no gimmickry. The styling reflects this with a shape free of superfluous ornament or embellishment. Pure, simple lines are all that is offered.

The Murcielago is the ultimate expression of the Lamborghini marque: thoroughbred performance with dynamic features that add to the clean and elegant styling. This car is truly one that lives up to its namesake, Murcielago, the strongest fighting bull of all time.

The new Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 features considerable innovations in terms of body design and mechanics. And also with a new name: Murcielago LP640, which refers to its engine position – longitudinale posteriore – and to its power 640 bhp. Designers and engineers have not only focused on reworking the engine, suspensions, gearbox, exhaust system, brakes and electronics, but also the interior and exterior design; improvements that make the Murcielago LP 640 the most extreme and fastest sports car in its class, placing it at the very top.

Lamborghini’s smiling senior test driver Valentino Balboni celebrates his 38th anniversary with the company the day before our arrival at the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese on a quiet Saturday when the air is still, the traffic relatively light, and northern Italy seems to be down for a nap.

Soon we are driving the 632-hp Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 behind Balboni, who is in his green Audi A4 diesel, and we can’t keep up. That’s because the narrow farm roads around the Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata, Italy, have three lanes, two visible ones for routine traffic and one invisible lane just for Balboni. He darts into it frequently to pick off slowpokes, the obliging Fiats moving to the right with barely a flashed headlight of complaint. The 81.0-inch-wide LP640, in our abnormally cautious hands, snorts and burbles and falls steadily behind.

2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 - www.robson.m3rlin.org

When the road clears, the new Murciélago, expected in U.S. showrooms by about the time you read this, at an estimated base price of $320,000, slips its leash with a mighty wail from its goggling mono-pipe. The road stripes blur as usual in a Lamborghini, but the vibe is different. The sluggish preamble, the trawling through lower, lesser-energized revs before the megaton explosion that was noted in our previous Murciélago test [C/D, July 2003], is gone.

The windup to warp speed happens in one long, startlingly smooth blast of intoxicating bull power. Better still, the clutch engages with a light pedal and facile fluidity, the bulky all-wheel-drive powertrain as tractable and complacent as a Honda’s from stoplight to stoplight. The LP640 is still a supercar by an older definition, meaning that it pushes and pogos and feels generally gargantuan. But the Murciélago now serves horsepower every bit as civilized as that from its nearby competitors at Il Cavallino Modenese.

2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 - www.robson.m3rlin.org

What happened was an engine redesign. The 572-hp, 6.2-liter dry-sump V-12 became a 6.5, going up a millimeter in bore size and 2.2mm in stroke. Everything from the crank mains up was redesigned to extract more power, flatten the delivery of the 487 pound-feet of torque, and improve emissions, starting with reshaped combustion chambers in new cylinder heads. Variable-valve-timing mechanisms on both sets of cams are now rotary-type with infinite variability; before, it was a two-step system. The multichamber intake plenum changed from a crossflow to a vertical downdraft, the air ramming through oval tubes straight into larger valves.

Lamborghini, which proudly makes its own engine computers, completely rewrote the software (no doubt with some input from parent company Audi) to accommodate the new hardware. The engineers say they also cut 60 pounds out of the engine compartment.

You’ll know the LP640 by its larger oil-cooler scoop — there are almost 13 quarts on tap — on the driver’s-side rocker panel. A chin spoiler, a rear aerodynamic undertray, and a see-through engine cover are other cues to the LP640’s newness, as are redesigned taillamps and bumpers. Inside, the leather is crisscrossed by a modish diamond-pleat stitch pattern, and the dull instrument cluster finally gets — ta-dum! — a Lamborghini logo. In a few more years it may get chrome rings, too.

Ironically, for a car built in Italy, the Murciélago seems less suited to pinched Italian roads than any vehicle made — except for maybe Jay Leno’s tank rod. It’s a daunting challenge to make it look fast in pictures, so we asked Balboni, a man with more miles in Lamborghinis than anyone else alive, to steer for a few cornering shots. On the second run, the LP640 abruptly lost its footing in some sand, spun backward, and clonked a sign post. We stared, too shocked to speak, weep, or laugh at our rotten karma. Balboni got out and studied the mildly dimpled bumper and cracked taillight with an embarrassed frown. “Game over,” he said.

Even after 38 years, Balboni’s game, like Lamborghini’s, seems far from over.

Unveiled on January 21, 1991 the Diablo was introduced at a base price of $240,000. The Lamborghini Diablo sported a 5,7 liter 48-valve variation of the legendary Lamborghini V12 that featured dual overhead cam and computer-controlled multi-point fuel injection that produced 492 horsepower and 427 foot-lbs of torque. The Diablo could achieve 0-60 mph in little over 4 seconds and the capability of 202 mph as a top speed. Just like the Countach, the Diablo was rear-wheel drive with a mid-mounted engine.

The Diablo didn’t feature as many bells and whistles as other cars with a price tag as extreme. It only came with basic radio functions, powerless seats and no antilock brakes. Several options were available though, a rear wing spoiler, a customized molded seat for the driver a factory fitted luggage set (available for $2,600) and an exclusive Breguet clock for the dash (available for $10,500).
Replacing the Lamborghini Countach, the 2-door Lamborghini Diablo SV coupe was introduced in 1990. With a total of 2,903 units produced during its lifetime, the Diablo in the name stands for ‘devil’ in Spanish and truly classifies the high-performance supercar built by Lamborghini of Italy.

In 1993 the Lamborghini Diablo introduced a new version, even more specialized that only attracted more faithful fans. The Diablo VT (Viscous Traction) version was built on the basic Diablo platform, but joined with a viscous-coupling type all-wheel-drive system, resized front wheels and tires that worked better with the all-wheel-drive system, an improved steering system, four-piston Brembo brake calipers and much more. The VT also came with an updated dashboard design along with a new computerized suspension system that had extremely tuned shock absorbers. The Diablo VT was manufactured from 1993 through 1998 while the Diablo VT Roadster was produced from 1995 through 1998.

Lamborghini unveiled its open-topped concept version of the VT at the 1992 Geneva Auto Show alongside the coupe. It wouldn’t be until 1995 that this vehicle would be produced. This version was nearly identical to the coupe, except for its removable Targa-style carbon fiber roof panel and different taillights.

To celebrate Lamborghini’s 30th anniversary, the SE 30 Diablo was unveiled, in and only sold in limited numbers for 1993. A racing variant of the standard Diablo, the SE 30 was introduced with very basic features, no extras, no radio, AC, or sound deadening. The seats in the SE 30 were carbonfibre molded seats to make the entire car lighter. The vehicle also received an advanced adjustment system that was controlled with an interior knock that could instantly adjust the stiffness of the car’s front and rear antiroll bars. The SE 30 didn’t have ABS, but the discs were enlarged on all four wheels.

An optional add-on package to the base model, the SV (Sport Veloce) model was introduced in 1995 that was produced through 1998. This version didn’t have the all-wheel-drive system or electronic suspension, but it did feature the VT’s revised dashboard and much larger brakes along with a new 3-piece adjustable spoiler. The Diablo SV was powered by an upgraded version of the 5.7 liter V12 that produced 510 horsepower. Since the vehicle’s air intakes were shaped slightly different, the headlamps were exposed rather than the pop-up units used on previous models from 1999 onwards. Considered by some to be the ‘ultimate Diablo’, the Diablo SV featured an enormous V-12 engine that was modified to reach 510 horsepower.

A tuned variant of the SV was produced by Tuning company Auto König of Germany that featured more suspension modifications, a twin-turbocharger system that pushed the SV’s output to over 800 horsepower, and huge brakes.

In 1999 the second version of the Diablo VT coupe and roadster were both introduced, basically with only minor styling updates. The VT’s now featured the SV’s exposed headlamps along with new wheels and a completely new dashboard. Brakes were now even larger, and the ABS was finally added, along with a new variable valve timing system on the 5.7 liter V12. Horses were now up to 530, and the VT could hit 0-60 in just under 4 seconds. Unfortunately Lamborghini decided to discontinue the Version 2 Vt’s after only one year of production, despite all the money invested in updates.

The Diable SV Version 2 coupe and roadster were also introduced in 1999, and updates were mainly focused on the cosmetic side of the vehicle. The exposed headlamps stayed the same, while new wheels, larger brakes and a new VVT equipped, 530 horsepower engine.

The SV Diablo versions were also discontinued in 1999.

Elizabeth Johnson
In 1985 Lamborghini began designing and developing a replacement for their successful Countach model. The Lamborghini Diablo was introduced in 1990 and stayed in production until 2001. The name Diablo is Spanish meaning ‘devil’ and was borrowed from a type of legendary bull raised by the Duke of Veragua in the 19th century. The goal for the Countach replacement was to achieve a 315 Km/h top speed. Marcello Gandini was commissioned to design the bodywork. Chrysler purchased Lamborghini in 1987 which meant Gandini’s designs had to pass Chrysler approval. Adjustments were made that took away from the aggressiveness of the vehicle and focused more on the driver and passenger comfort. The modifications did not draw drastically away from the initial designs and Gandini was satisfied with the outcome. Chryslers influence continued to the interior of the vehicle. The Italian leather seats, steering wheel, and dashboard were all adjustable. The seats could be ordered specifically to fit the driver. The stereo system was an Alpine unit, customizable to the user’s preferences with offerings of either a CD or cassette player. An optional remote CD changer and sub woofer cost additional, but was still available. A Breguet clock would set the buyer back an additional $10,500 while the factory fitted luggage cost $2600.

The Lamborghini V-12 cylinder was enlarged to 5.7 liters and given a multi-point fuel injection system. It was placed mid-ship in the Diablo and provided power to the rear wheels. The powerplant was capable of producing nearly 500 horsepower and gave the super-car a top speed of over 325 Km/h. Zero-to-sixty took just over four-seconds.

For an additional $4500, a rear wing could be added to the vehicle. The engine remained cool thanks to the rear bumper which served as a spoiler that recycled the warm air from the engine with cool air. The body was mostly comprised of aluminum alloy.

The doors opened up and forward and had side windows which could be rolled down electronically. Visibility was much improved over the Countach. The side windows were designed to allow ample viewing. The rear view mirror was functional and not hindered by the engine lid.

Throughout the years, Lamborghini made subtle improvements to the vehicle. To increase sales and attract new customers, Lamborghini introduced AWD versions, Targa editions, and limited edition variants. Limited edition versions offered customers unique customization, such as the ‘Victoria’s Secret’ theme car. In addition to the specialty and limited editions, Lamborghini offered racing variants. A version was created to compete in the GT1 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Other racing versions, such as the SVS and SV-R were factory created racing ready vehicles.

In 1993 to celebrate Lamborghini’s 30th anniversary of automobile production they introduced the Diablo SE 30. In an effort to reduce the overall weight, the vehicle was deprived of luxurious amenities. The brakes were enlarged and the suspension was improved, giving the driver the ability to adjust the stiffness of the vehicles suspension.

The Diablo VT was introduced in 1993 and stayed in production until 1998. The VT, meaning Viscous Traction, was given an all-wheel drive system, power steering, four-piston Brembo brakes, computerized suspension system with Koni shock absorbers, and an improved interior. The suspension had two settings that could be selected by the driver. The traction-control system shifted power to the front wheels when the rear wheels lost grip. The first setting was an ‘automatic’ mode meaning the suspension was controlled by a computer. The ‘manual’ mode allowed the driver to select between four different driving selection depending on the terrain and driving conditions.

A Roadster version of the VT was introduced in 1995. It had been debuted with the coupe at the 1992 Geneva Auto Show but it took another few years before it was ready for production. It was similar to the coupe but was given a removable carbon fibre roof panel. Production continued until 1998.

The Diablo SV (Sport Volce), introduced in 1995 and produced until 1998, was an optional package the included larger brakes, three-piece adjustable spoiler, revised dashboard, and an enlarged engine. The 5.7 liter twelve-cylinder engine produced 520 horsepower. The pop-up head lights were replaced with an exposed headlight system.

Auto König of Germany produced a kit for the SV that added to the mechanical capabilities of the vehicle. A twin-turbocharger system increased the engines output to over 800 horsepower. To combat the extra power, the suspension and brakes received modifications.

1998 was the final year for the pop-up headlights. All models were built with the built-in headlight design.

1999 brought the second versions of the Diablo VT, Diablo VT Roadster, and Diablo SV. All new was the Diablo GT. These versions were only produced for the 1999 model year. The Diablo VT was a combination of mechanical and aesthetic modifications. The pop-up headlights were replaced with exposed headlamps. The dashboard was redesigned and new wheels adorned the exterior of the vehicle. ABS finally made its way onto the Diablo. The brakes were enlarged and a new variable valve timing system (VVT) was added to the V12 engine. With 530 horsepower on tap, the Diablo VT raced from zero-to-sixty in less than four seconds. A Roadster version was available which added a removable roof.

The Diablo ST was similar to the Diablo VT. Its engine featured a 530 horsepower VVT engine. The brakes were enlarged and the exposed headlamps were standard. The main distinguishing features were aesthetics.

The Diablo GT was a limited edition version that was meant for the race track and when introduced, was the fasted production car in the world. Only eighty examples were produced, all were sold in Europe. The engine was enlarged to 6.0 liters and horsepower skyrocketed to 575. The suspension was lowered and given modifications. The brakes were enlarged and provided excellent stopping power. The weight of the vehicle was reduced wherever possible, meaning the interior was void of amenities or luxury items. Wider wheels, flared fenders, and modified bodywork gave the Diablo an aggressive stance and appearance.

The third version of the Diablo VT was introduced in 2000 and produced until 2001. During its production lifespan, only 260 examples were produced. A new hybrid engine replaced the aging 5.7 liter unit. Based on the Diablo GT, the 6.0 liter VVT engine had updated software and new intake and exhaust system, resulting in 550 horsepower. Titanium connecting rods and a lighter crankshaft added to the engines improvements. Most of the vehicles were AWD however, upon customer request, rear-wheel drive could be ordered. To improve visibility at high speeds, the windshield wipers were improved. The interior and exterior of the vehicle received styling and modernization updates, including the bumper, dashboards, seats, and more. The interior was lined in leather and airbags were standard for both the driver and passenger. Carbon fibre and aluminum were used throughout the cockpit.

In 2000 production of the Diablo ceased. However, Audi had purchased Lamborghini from Chrysler in the 1990’s and decided to produced two special edition versions of the Diablo, the Millennium Roadster and the VT 6.0 Special Edition. The rear-wheel drive Millennium Roadster was painted in ‘Millennium Metallic Silver’, featured a carbon fibre rear spoiler, and given the VT roadster’s body. The VT 6.0 Special Edition was offered in two colors, ‘Oro Elios’ (gold) and ‘Marrone Eklipsis’ (metallic brown). The interior color matched the exterior color. Special electrically adjustable leather seats and dashboard accompanied the Alpine stereo system and DVD audio/navigation system. Twenty-one examples in each color were created, resulting in a total of 42 produced.

In September of 2001, the Diablo was replaced by the Murcielago. The SE was the final installment of the exclusive super-car, the Diablo.

The Lamborghini Embolado is an extreme sportscar characterized by an aggressive design with sharp and steady lines. The author is Luca Serafini, an Industrial Design final year student at University of Parma, Italy.

Lamborghini EmboladoThe project idea came from the designer’s dream to work as a designer for Lamborghini; a very natural desire, since he lives in Modena, just a few kilometers away from Sant’Agata Bolognese.
As Luca Serafini explains “the inspiration came from the research of a Spanish festival, named “Embolado Bull” (or Toro Embolado).

“The choice of the name was the first step towards the creation of this concept”.
“Based on the Gallardo dimensions, I started to define the main lines in a very marked and steady way, giving the front end taurin forms”.

The movement of the side surfaces gives the car a natural sleek appearance. All the design is based on the “aggressivity” theme.

“After the recent launch of the Gallardo Superleggera, in order to make a tribute to it, I have adapted the Embolado Concept basing on the aestethic modifications of the new model, with some post-process in Photoshop.”

The Embolado was modeled in Rhino; the final renderings were created in 3DStudio MAX, with some post-process in Photoshop.
About the Designer

Luca Serafini is currently in his final year of the Industrial Design Course at the University of Parma, Italy.

For three years he participated in the chassis design of the Formula Student racing car, in partnership with the University of Modena.

Among his professional experiences are collaborations with the Milan Politecnico and with car cutomization projects. He is starting a career as a freelance designer.

The Volkswagen Group threw a major shindig in Frankfurt earlier tonight at which it showed off all the new wares its introducing to the public at the Frankfurt show beginning tomorrow. The car that has assuredly generated the most heavy breathing this evening is the holy-crap-that-thing’s-effing-badass Lamborghini Reventon (click for Engadget’s perspective). Named for the bull that killed toreador Felix Guzman in 1943, the Reventon is basically the ultimate Murcielago in all respects, including price. The super-limited (only twenty cars are being built) supercar costs a cool $1,000,000, and all of them are already sold. Power from its V12 is up around 20 horses over the regular Murcielago LP640, so you get a little extra juice for the added dough.

The Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Coupe is not a subtle vehicle. Its wild appearance turns heads everywhere, and its brute force and excellent handling put it near the top of the super car food chain.

• Get a Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 price quote

In the LP640 designation, “LP” stands for longitudinale posteriore, an Italian phrase that means the vehicle’s massive V12 engine is laid out north-south behind the cockpit. The “640” denotes the amazing 640 horsepower that engine produces.

Owners can show off the heart of their beast with an optional clear engine cover. Arch-rival Ferrari has offered similar transparent paneling as standard equipment on its mid-engine models for more than two decades.

A more-aggressive front bumper with reshaped air intakes and a large spoiler underneath distinguish the LP640 Coupe from the previous Murciélago. A redesigned rear diffuser encompasses twin exhaust pipes and keeps the vehicle stable at high speed.

• See Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 specs

The Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Coupe has an extra intake just ahead of the driver’s-side rear wheel that channels cool air to the oil radiator. The 18-inch wheels are wrapped in performance tires. Racing tires are optional.

• Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Vehicle Summary

The Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Coupe has an electronically controlled adaptive suspension and six-speed manual transmission linked to a stronger rear differential and beefed-up axles. An automatic transmission that can be shifted manually, which Lamborghini calls “E-gear,” is optional. It offers a sport mode for split-second gear changes.

Massive brake discs — the front ones are roughly 15 inches in diameter — quickly slow the Murciélago down from any speed. Thicker carbon-ceramic brake discs are optional and designed to reduce brake fade, which is when brakes become less effective as the discs overheat from heavy use, such as on a racetrack.

Like the previous model, the Murciélago LP640 Coupe features exotic carbon-fiber body panels, a steel roof and doors that scissor open in signature Lamborghini style.

• See all Lamborghini models in the Lamborghini Showroom

The seats in the Murciélago LP640 Coupe have been redesigned for comfort and increased headroom. They incorporate quilted leather upholstery, as do the door inserts and ceiling. All Lamborghini cockpits can be customized with carbon-fiber trim as well as other special materials and finishes.

The Murcielago LP640 Coupe is the second-most powerful closed-roof model in the Lamborghini lineup, after the Reventon. “LP” stands for “longitudinale posteriore,” an Italian phrase that explains that the V12 engine is mounted longitudinally (that is, north-south) behind the driver. The “640″ stands for its astounding 640-hp output. The Murcielago LP640 Coupe is radically styled and features doors that open vertically. Handling benefits from a fully independent, electronically controlled suspension and a full-time all-wheel-drive system. For the few wealthy buyers who can afford it and handle its power, the Murcielago LP640 Coupe is one of the quickest and most exotic coupes available.

Think about listening Iron Maiden while driving in this kind of car and then download high resolution wallpapers from HERE or view the full image gallery of the Lamborghini Embolado Concept.

Forthose who feel Lamborghini’s styling has been severely softened by the impact of parent company Audi, the Lamborghini Embolado concept shows a possible design direction that’s anything but soft. The only problem is it’s not official.

Created by Italian design student Luca Serafini, the idea of the Embolado came from the Spanish festival Toro Embolado, meaning ‘bull in balls’, an event where balls of flammable material are attached to the horns of a bull and lit on fire. The bull is then set free in the streets at night. “The choice of the name was the first step towards the creation of this concept,” says Serafini. He’s even created a Superleggera version of the car with similar styling cues to the recently released Gallardo Superleggera.

Designing the Embolado stemmed from Serafini’s dream to work at Lamborghini, however he is no stranger to designing Italian supercars, having previously conceptualized a Ferrari Dino. In fact, Serafini is a native of Modena so inspiration for automotive exotica would have come at an early age. The cab forward design approach is also fairly unique to the super car world, making the Embolado even more of a head-turner than usual.

His latest creation is based on the dimensions of the Gallardo, but seems much more true to Lamborghinis of old where the cars would instill fear both standing still and in motion. We could envisage a new entry-level Lambo looking exactly like this, making a perfect rival for the rumored Dino model from Ferrari. If someone from Lamborghini is reading this please pass it on to the proper authorities.

We don’t know why, but the first thing we thought of when we saw these photos was a shark. Doesn’t really look like Lamborghini’s bull, but it’s definitely aggressive. So, what’s this, you might ask? Well, it’s the Lamborghini Embolado concept car created by Luca Serafini, student in final year of the Industrial Design Course at the University of Parma, Italy. And it’s a cool concept, not like the Lamborghini Alar, which we presented a few months ago and which was hideous.

When Luca designed the concept, he thought of it as a replacement for the current Gallardo model and the whole design starts from the Gallardo. The name Embolado comes from a Spanish festival, named “Embolado Bull” (or Toro Embolado). Luca even created a Superleggera version of the Embolado. Of course, probably Lamborghini will never take this seriously, but still, it’s a great design. You can also check Luca Serafini’s page on deviantart.

Clearly a Lamborghini, but nothing quite like it. A super car without equals: The Lamborghini Reventón is a road vehicle with an extreme specification and, at the same time, a limited edition masterpiece – a coherent style, angular with sharp lines, inspired by the very latest aeronautics.

Lamborghini Reventón (pronounced: reh-bent-ohn) is a mid-engined sports car that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. It is currently the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini road car to date, costing one million euro. The official press release states that only 20 will be built (and one for the Lamborghini Museum). They later report that 80 more units will be built. The exterior styling was inspired by the F-22 Raptor.[citation needed] Although the exterior is partially new, almost the entire mechanics (including the engine) are taken directly from the Murciélago LP640.

Initial reports suggest that the 6.5 litre V12 may receive a power boost of approximately 15 kilowatts (20 horsepower), bringing the new output close to 490 kW (650 horsepower). In spite of this, and the car’s carbon fibre components, the Reventón accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in the same time as the Murciélago LP640 (3.4 seconds).

The instrument panel in the Reventón comprises three TFT liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with two different display modes. The instruments are housed in a structure milled from a solid aluminum block, protected by a carbon fiber casing. The G-Force-Meter is completely new and it is one of the talking points of the Reventón. It displays the dynamic drive forces, longitudinal acceleration during acceleration and braking, as well as transversal acceleration around bends. These forces are represented by the movement of an indicator on a graduated 3D grid depending on the direction and intensity of the acceleration. Formula One teams also use a similar device to analyze dynamic forces.

By simply pressing a button, the driver can switch to the second, quasi-analogical display, where there are the usual circular instruments; speedometer and tachometer. The G-Force-Meter still remains at the center of this display mode.

Lamborghini has also picked up some of parent company Audi’s design language. For the first time, Lamborghini incorporated daylight running lights with the headlamps of the Reventón. Seven Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) at each headlamp flank the Bi-Xenon main beam and they stay lit whenever the car is in movement. Due to the high temperatures in the rear lower part of the car, special heatproof LEDs are used for the indicator and hazard lights, stoplights and rear lights with a triple arrow optical effect.

The Reventón is named after a fighting bull according to recent Lamborghini tradition. The car’s namesake, owned by the Don Rodríguez family, is best known for killing famed bullfighter Félix Guzmán in 1943. Reventón means “explosion” or “burst” in Spanish, when used as a noun.In automotive terms, it means “blowout, flat tire” when used as a noun. When it was used as the name of a bull, however, it was intended to be interpreted as an adjective a quality or property of that bull in particular. Then Reventón means “he who is used to making things burst”.

Lamborghini Alar is a mid-engined sports car produced by Lamborghini LatinoAmerica. A unit is rumoured to cost $750,000 each. The Alar was heavily based on the diablo especially in the areas of chassis and engine. Other components are made locally by the company. It has yet to be produced with rumors suggesting first production will be in March 2008.

The engine of the Alar is a heavily modified Lamborghini Diablo engine, it is a 7.7L V12 able to produce 770 Horsepower and can redline at about 7500 RPM. It’s body weighs relatively the same as a Diablo at 1200 kg. Initial Reports suggest the Alar could top 223 MPH (358.9 km/h) and could reach 0-60 MPH (100 km/h) in 3.5 to 4 Seconds, but subsequent official brochures has outlined its specifications. The estimated top speed of the Alar is 254.2 MPH (410 km/h) and 0-60 MPH (100 km/h) is achievable in 3.6 Seconds.
Styling

Although it shares the same platform and engine as the Lamborghini Diablo its outer styling is completely different. Its styling is reminiscent of the Lamborghini Coatl, which is another car produced by Lamborghini LatinoAmerica and designed by Joan Ferci. Like the Alar the Coatl is also based on the earlier Diablo.

We’ll admit right off the bat that we can’t tell you much about this car, called the Lamborghini Alar 777. Apparently an Argentinian by the name of Joan Ferci has somehow acquired exclusive rights to build custom Lamborghinis that retain the Italian marque’s historic name and feature an official badge of the raging bull on the front end. He’s created a pair of models in the past called the Coatl and the Eros GT-1, both based off of the Diablo. The Alar 777 will be the third model produced off of the Diablo platform and debut on March 30th in Buenos Aires. The car will produce over 700 horsepower from the Diablo’s V12 motor and reached a claimed top speed of 223 mph. All we have at the moment is this computer rendering of the Lamborghini Alar 77 courtesy of Argentina Auto Blog, which has us wondering how many times Ferruccio Lamborghini will roll in his grave when this thing officially debuts.

Looking like the bastard child of a Pontiac Banshee cross-bred with leftover elements from H.R. Giger’s original Alien designs, the Alar is, by all appearances, a waking nightmare on four wheels. The hammerhead shark-like nose is particularly weird-looking. Ironically, there are people who go out of their way to build kit cars that look like real Diablos. Here you have a case where perfectly good Diablos will be sacrificed in order to make them look like wacky kit cars. The mind reels.

Weight – 1200 kg
Engine – Lamborghini V12 7700cc (A highly tuned Lamborghini Diablo engine)
Suspension – Dual Parallel Asymmetric with Antishock system
Horsepower – 770 BHP
Redline – 7500 RPM
Top Speed – 254.2 MPH or 410 km/h
0-60 MPH/0-100 km/h – 3.6 Seconds

The Lamborghini Miura Concept will be the first Lamborghini vehicle to be conjured from the talented pen of Walter de’ Silva, Head of Lamborghini Design. de’ Silva’s other design responsibilities include
serving as Head of Design of Audi Group. The talented designer’s idea for the new concept was simple: a retro-inspired look heralding back to one of the auto world’s most famous icons, the legendary Miura.

Lamborghini anxiously begins the New Year with the highly anticipated unveiling of the Lamborghini Miura Concept, a modern interpretation of the Lamborghini Miura. Currently celebrating its 40th Anniversary, the Miura was originally designed by Marcello Gandini and was first publicly presented at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show by Ferruccio Lamborghini and Nuccio Bertone.

To this day, the Miura remains one of the most beautiful cars ever created.

The new concept model, which as of now, is strictly a concept with no firm date set for its production launch, is the inspired creation of de’ Silva, the world-famous Italian designer. He has redesigned every aspect of the car while remaining absolutely faithful to the original form.

The new car retains the extraordinary purity of line characteristic of the original Miura: the designer’s intervention has been defined by refining the contours and eliminating any superfluous detail in order to enhance the clean, simple lines and perfectly-balanced proportions of the original that so impassioned enthusiasts.

The restyling of the lower part of the body takes the car’s structural strength and aerodynamic performance to new heights, without disturbing the delicate aesthetic equilibrium.

Even the touches of contemporary styling applied to the interior, the lights, and the wheels have been carefully measured to achieve a homogenous design that is both timeless and immediately recognizable. And so a true design icon is reborn.

“Over the last two years,” explains Walter de’ Silva, “I have often dreamt of redesigning the Miura. Now, thanks to my new position at the head of Lamborghini design and the enthusiastic support of the Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, I have been able to turn that dream into a reality.”

The Lamborghini Miura Concept will be on show at the Lamborghini stand at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Murcielago sports a 6.2 L version of the legendary Lamborghini V12 engine, a six speed manual or six speed e-gear sequential gearbox and All Wheel Drive. It also has a rear spoiler that can be raised to an angle of 70 degrees, the side mirrors fold in to increase aerodynamics and side scoops that automatically open to the needed size to let in just the right amount of air needed to cool its engine.

The name Murcielago comes from a bull that survived 24 sword strokes in an 1879 fight at the arena of Cordoba, and fought with such passion and spirit that the matador chose to spare its life, a rare honor. In another Lamborghini tie-in, the bull was later presented as a gift to Don Antonio Miura, a noted breeder, and went on to sire a line of famous fighting bulls. Murcielago also means bat in Spanish, and a Murcielago roadster is featured briefly in the movie Batman Begins. The coupe’s base price is US$ 273,000, which is US$90,000 more than its smaller sibling, the Lamborghini Gallardo.

Not many tuners dare to touch the Lamborghinis, but the few who do (Hamann, Edo) do so with great respect for the supercar icon. Imsa, a German high-tech engineering specialist, has developed an Autoclave moulded carbon fibre technology- and design-package for the ‘devil’ of the Lamborghini line-up. Autoclave moulding is normally a process reserved for F1 and other high-end motorsport racing.

The aggressive new front spoiler aligns perfectly to the, by 35 mm widened, wheel arches. On the upper side of the wheel arches imsa has added air ducts resulting in a reduction of the drag effect caused by non-aerodynamic airflow at higher (and top) speeds. The imsa side skirts garantees optimum airflow to the new rear diffuser which has been developed for a perfect interaction with the imsa rear spoiler.

The brand new imsa technical and aerodynamic-enhancement program for the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Imsa, the world-acclaimed, German High-Tech Engineering specialist, exclusively presents, after successfully introducing the stunning imsa GTV Supercar based on all versions of the Lamborghini Gallardo, its new technology and design-enhancement program for Lamborghini’s current top-of-the-range supercar, the Murcielago LP640.

Special emphasis must be laid on the technology- and design-package made from Autoklav moulded carbon fibre. Technology which is normally only being used in Formula 1 and other Top-motorsports Series.

Imsa’s main target was, for all owners of the Lamborghini top-of-the-range-model, to offer an exclusive product line, transforming the Murcielago both technically and optically into a unique work of art, with the aim of significantly enhancing the exclusivity of Lamborghini’s top-model.

The strinkingly aggressive and aerodynamically highly effective front apron (spoiler) perfectly aligned to the wheel arches (widened 35mm on each side), directly becomes apparent.

On the upper side of the wheel arches, imsa CFK air ducts have been integrated, resulting in a significant reduction of the drag effect caused by non-aerodynamic airflow at higher and highest velocity.

The imsa side-skirts on the underside guarantee the optimum airflow to the imsa diffuser, which has been developed for an aerodynamically perfect interaction with the imsa rear spoiler. Imsa herewith achieved to considerably lower the downforce at higher and highest speeds.

The benefits for the driver are a significant enhancement of driving stability, safety and enjoyment. All parts of the imsa-aerodynamic-enhancement program are either available in carbon-on-sight or can be painted in any colour of choice.

The imsa aerodynamic-enhancement-program is available from November 2007 on and will soon be available for the “standard” Murcielago as well.

The imsa technical enhancement program also includes – exactly as for the imsa GTV Supercar based on the Lamborghini Gallardo – exclusive imsa multi-part sports wheels with central locking system, various sports chassis with individual settings, and, last but not least, various imsa engine modifications and own engines.

At imsa, each customer is fully involved in the creation of his personal, unique imsa-Megacar handcrafted according to highest German standards of quality and precision.

The Gallardo was designed as the sickest car in the world and can kick ass and is competitor to Ferrari’s 360 Modena, and now competes with its replacement, the F430. The car is named after a famous breed of fighting bull and is pronounced roughly “guy-ar-do”. Gallardo is also Spanish for the word gallant. Although performance is lower than the Murcielago, it is still very high, and the Gallardo has much better rearward visibility and, according to reviewers, is more maneuverable as well as more tractable in low-speed traffic, making the Gallardo a much more practical car to drive. It is also much more practical to use in bad weather than many other supercars, thanks to rear-biased all-wheel drive. Although corporate owner Audi is renowned for its Quattro AWD system, Lamborghini uses a system of its own.

At current U.S. prices, a base Gallardo costs about $175,000.

The Gallardo uses a V10 engine based on Audi’s old straight-5 design. The engine was split again to become the straight-5 engine found in the new Volkswagen Jetta. The 5.0 L engine is a current Audi 4.2 L V8 (featured in Audi’s S4, A6, A8, and Q7 models) with two extra cylinders added and a slightly smaller bore diameter.

The Gallardo offers two choices of transmissions, a conventional six-speed manual transmission, and an advanced six-speed electro-hydraulically controlled auto-clutch manual, or, as Lamborghini abbreviates it to, “E-gear”. The latter allows the driver to make shifts much faster than an automatic transmission would, with the control that a manual offers. The driver shifts up and down via paddles behind the steering wheel, and does not need to manually actuate the clutch.

Audi AG, Lamborghini’s current owner, offers its own sports car based on the Gallardo architecture, the Audi R8, available in spring 2007. It will use a V8 in place of the Gallardo’s V10 to avoid competing directly with the sister car.

The production spyder model of the Gallardo was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January, 2006. It is considered by the company to be an entirely new model, with 520 hp (388 kW) and a lower-ratio six-speed transmission. The soft top is fully retractable.

Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer was the first person in North America to take delivery of the spyder model of the Gallardo.

The price of the spyder starts at $195,000

In late 2005, the Gallardo SE (for Special Edition) was introduced. The SE is distinguished from the regular Gallardo externally by having a black roofed two tone color scheme as well as specially designed “Callisto” rims shod with Pirelli tires. Mechanically, the SE addresses many of the criticisms of the original Gallardo; the steering is quicker and more responsive, the gearbox gear ratios have been adjusted to better suit the V10, and the E-gear now has a “thrust mode” to optimize acceleration, and its power has been increased to 520 hp (388 kW). The SE has a higher top speed of 315km/h, (196mph), and it accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Only 250 units of the Gallardo SE will be produced. All the mechanical upgrades of the SE, however, will be included in all Gallardos after 2006 (excluding the two-tone bodywork).

The Gallardo SE comes with a two-tone interior. All piping and stitching on the ultra-quality leather are executed in the same color as the bodywork of the car. The mid sections of the seats are finished in color-coded upholstery and even the black floormats have a color coded borders. A suede-like alcantara steering wheel, a Lamborghini crest on the headrests and the script on the dashboard insure that once seated on the perforated leather seats, there is no doubt you are inside a special car.

A rear view camera system is also standard issue on the Gallardo SE, as is an amazing multimedia system, however a state of the art navigation system is still on the options list. The sport suspension and an exclusive cover also came with the car but there are still several other options available, like the e-Gear, which featured a ‘thrust’ mode to offer even more impressive acceleration by improving the gearchange through the different gears.

This “thrust” mode actually automatically revs the car to 5000 rpm, drops the clutch engaging all four wheels in a controlled burnout, and insures the car performs maximum acceleration. This “launch” only requires the driver to engage the “thrust” mode and step on the gas pedal, similar to the launch technology in Formula 1 racers.

The Gallardo Nera (Special Edition) was introduced at Paris Motor Show. The Nera has a top speed of 315km/h, (196mph), and it accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Only 185 units of the Gallardo Nera will be produced and 60 are for the American market.
Top speed: 309 km/h (192mph) / 315 km/h (196 mph)(Gallardo SE and 06+)
0 to 100 km/h (62 mph): 4.2 s / 4.0 s (Gallardo SE and 06+)
0 to 200 km/h (124 mph): 14.5 s
Standing km: 22.5 s
1/4 mile: 12.2 s at 118 mph
Engine
Type: V10
Displacement: 5.0 litres
Power: 373 kW (500 bhp) / 388 kW (520 bhp) (Gallardo SE and 06+)
Torque: 510 N·m

* Gallardo is a breed of Spanish fighting bull. Nearly all of Lamborghini’s cars are named after bulls.
* The Gallardo has been featured in a number of films and TV shows including: NBC’s reality series The Apprentice, the film Mission: Impossible III and the shows CSI: Miami and Nip/Tuck (Gallardo Spyder). Notably, the car was also spoofed on an episode of The Simpsons (The Italian Bob), referred to as the “Lamborgotti Fasterossa”.
* Bam Margera owns a purple Gallardo, which he cut a sunroof out of with the help of Billy Idol.
* The Gallardo Spyder was road tested on the British TV show Top Gear where presenter Jeremy Clarkson described it as his new favourite supercar; Clarkson is believed to want to sell his Ford GT and purchase a Gallardo.
* In 2004, a stock yellow Gallardo coupe was piloted to 200 mph on a highway as part of Ferretti Productions second Life Beyond the Quarter street/drag racing video, exceeding the manufacturer’s top speed estimate.
* The car is referenced and mispronounced in the song “Smack That” by Akon.

In December, 2004, several Gallardo supercars were donated by Lamborghini to the Italian police in honor of the force’s 152nd anniversary. The Gallardo Police Cars will be used by the traffic police (Polizia Stradale) during emergencies and alarm situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway, also under the powers of the special safety operative which is already being employed along this tract of highway and above all for the transport of organs destined to transplants.

Yellow Gallardos have been “temporary” police cars for the Metropolitan Police in London, one in 2005 and one in 2006, for specific publicity events. The 2006 vehicle was seen at the start of the 2006 Gumball Rally. Both vehicles were loaned by Lamborghini London and were fitted with yellow and blue battenburg livery, police logos and a small blue lightbar.t of the ten

“Greatest Ferraris of all time”.

We shouldn’t be surprised that Lamborghini’s new ultra-elite supercar shares its name with a bull—this one famous for the 1943 death of legendary matador Felix Guzman in Mexico. Despite its bloody inspiration, every 2008 Reventon has already sold out—to 20 millionaires who wish they could fly F22 Raptor fighter jets. That’s where much of the inspiration came from, according to Lamborghini. Indeed, the unbelievably angular shape looks more like Batman’s next plane than something you’d see on the way to the mall.

Clearly a Lamborghini, but nothing quite like it. A super car without equals: the Lamborghini Reventon is a road vehicle with an extreme specification and, at the same time, a limited edition masterpiece – a coherent style, angular with sharp lines, inspired by the very latest aeronautics.

With just 20 produced, each 1 Million Euro (without taxes) Lamborghini Reventon
is a symbol of extreme exclusivity, yet still offering the extraordinary performance that makes the Reventon so unrivalled: under the completely autonomous design, the Reventon possesses the entire technical and dynamic competence of the twelve cylinder Lamborghini.

Lamborghini prides itself on being the extraordinary manufacturer of extreme super sports cars without compromise. Sensuality and provocation characterise every Lamborghini, with an aggressively innovative style. “However, the Reventón is the most extreme of all, a true automotive superlative. Our designers at the Lamborghini Style Centre took the technical base of the Murcielago LP640 and compressed and intensified its DNA, its genetic code,” affirms Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.

The Lamborghini Reventon has been entirely designed in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the original birthplace of the Lamborghini and the native home of every super car born under the sign of the bull. The design drawn up in Lamborghini’s Centro Stile (Style Centre) is fine-tuned in close collaboration with the Lamborghini Research and Development Department. Thus, the Reventon is not only “haute couture” but it also stands out for its elevated dynamism whilst being entirely suitable for every day use.

The Lamborghini Reventón is not destined to remain a one-off. A total of 20 Lamborghini friends and collectors will be able to own this extraordinary car and, naturally, enjoy the incomparable pleasure of driving it.

The name Reventon has been chosen according to Lamborghini tradition. Reventon was a fighting bull, owned by the Don Rodriguez family. It is included in the list of the most famous bulls ever and is known for killing the famed bullfighter Felix Guzman in 1943.

The present day Lamborghini models are distinguished by the clear language of their shape. The coherent proportions of the Murciélago and Gallardo highlight their power and dynamism. Sharp edges, precise lines and clean surfaces: these are ingredients of a style reduced to the essential. Each element is created exactly according to its function; ornaments and decorations are totally foreign to a Lamborghini.

With the Reventón the Centro Stile designers have coherently developed this philosophy, inspired by another sphere where speed and dynamism reign absolute: modern aeronautics, responsible for the fastest and most agile airplanes in the world. This has created an extremely precise, technically striking style with a new vitality: interrupted lines and contorted surfaces create a fascinating play of light, giving the car incredible movement.

Although it is based on the extraordinarily successful Murcielago LP640, the exterior design of the Reventon is completely new. Just like the base model, the exterior is made of CFC, a composite carbon fibre material, which is as stable as it is light. The exterior components are glued and fixed to the body comprised of CFC and steel.

The front is characterised by the acute angle of the central ‘arrow’ and by the powerful forward-facing air intakes. Although they do not supply air directly to the turbine like an airplane, bearing in mind the 650 hp, an abundant volume of air is necessary to cool the carbon brake disks and the six cylinder callipers.

Naturally, both doors on the Reventon open upwards – since the legendary Countach this has also been a symbol of the V12 Lamborghini product line. With their asymmetric configuration, the large air intakes below the doors provide an example of the extreme coherence with which a Lamborghini fulfils its function: on the driver’s side it is large to increase the flow of oil to the radiator. On the passenger’s side of the vehicle, the air intake is flat because in this case, it only has to ensure the flow below the floor. The aerodynamically optimised flat floor structure terminates at the rear with a diffuser featuring an accentuated shape. This guarantees excellent road grip and stability even at 340 km per hour.

In spite of the extreme and innovative language of its shape, the Reventon not only maintains all the strong features of the Murcielago LP640, but also offers further amelioration in terms of aerodynamics, the important engine cooling system, the air intake system and brakes. The airflow and the section of the variable geometry air intakes of the engine and the rear spoiler (also adjustable) have been modified.

Owners of the 20 examples will be able to test the performance of his or her Lamborghini in person.

The engine hood made of glass laminate with open ventilation slits offers a glimpse of the beating heart of the twelve cylinders of the super car. The glass also features the marked arrow angle that characterises the design from the front to the rear spoiler. The Lamborghini designers’ love for detail is beautifully illustrated by the fuel tank lid: a small mechanical work of art, achieved by milling a solid aluminium block.

The combination lights transform the incisiveness of the design into light: the front features the most modern light-emitting diodes alongside Bi-Xenon headlights. Seven LEDs ensure continuous daylight while there are a further nine diodes for the indicator and hazard lights. Another technical innovation is found in the rear light LEDs. Because of the high temperature in the rear low part of the car, special heatproof LEDs are used for the indicator and hazard lights, stoplights and rear lights with a triple arrow optical effect.

Naturally, such a refined language of shape also demands an extraordinary colour. For the 20 examples of the Reventón, the designers from Sant’Agata Bolognese have created a totally new hue: Reventón, a mid opaque green/grey without the usual shine. However, thanks to the metallic particles, in the daylight this colour tone features surprising depth.

This play of opaque and lustre is also featured on the wheel rims, especially created for the Reventon. Opaque carbon fins are screwed onto the black aluminium spokes, not only creating a visual effect with the precision of a surgeon’s scalpel, but a turbine effect also ensures optimum cooling for the powerful ceramic brake disks.

The same innovative force applied to the exterior design characterises the cockpit of the Reventón. Designed and created using Alcantara, carbon, aluminum and leather that comply with the top quality standards, the interior is inspired by the next generation cockpits: just like in modern airplanes, the instruments comprise three TFT liquid crystal displays with innovative display modes. At the touch of a button, the driver can choose from two vehicle information display modes. The instruments are housed in a structure milled from a solid aluminum block, protected by a carbon fibre casing.

The G-Force-Meter is also completely new: this display shows the dynamic drive forces, longitudinal acceleration during acceleration and braking, as well as transversal acceleration around bends. These forces are represented by the movement of an indicator on a graduated 3D grid depending on the direction and intensity of the acceleration. A similar instrument can be found in the airplanes. Formula One teams also use a similar device to analyse dynamic forces.

The instrument on the left of the speedometer associates the number of revolutions in the form of a luminous column with the display of the selected gear. Finally, every Reventón is equipped with a robotised e.gear controlled by two small levers under the steering wheel.

By simply pressing a button, the driver can switch to the second, quasi-analogical display, where the classic circular instruments, speedometer and engine speed indicator are configured in an equally innovative way and transformed into luminous pilot lamps with varying colors. The G-Force-Meter naturally remains at the center in this display mode.
All this is possible thanks to the fact that the entire electronic platform of the Reventon, together with all the control devices, has been autonomously developed by the Lamborghini experts.

The same process for integrating the electronic displays in the car was applied to the Lamborghini Engineering Department.

From the conception of the very first radical ideas, the entire Reventon has been developed in Sant’Agata Bolognese thanks to tight teams of remarkably creative experts. An extremely refined and efficient process was employed: CAD design and development, creation of the prototype in the Prototype Department, all carried out under the constant supervision of the Research and Development Department’s technicians and testers.

Inaugurated in 2004, the Centro Stile is dedicated to design and characterised by a high degree of efficiency: an “atelier” of creators, designers and prototype constructors, who encapsulate the Lamborghini culture and spirit by using their remarkable skills to create aesthetic innovation.

The Centro Stile is located in a 2,900 square two-storey building. The large pavilion houses two test floors and related production and analysis equipment, while other rooms are set aside for the most advanced computerized workstations for designers and a style-model construction workshop. The Centro Stile is also closely linked to the nearby Engineering Department: the direct line between the Lamborghini development departments guarantees that ideas rapidly become reality.

The Lamborghini Reventon is a practical illustration of the streamlined functionality and efficiency characterising the Centro Stile: it took less than a year to progress from the first ideas to the finished car. The complete design process from the first sketches on paper, to three dimensional computer models with 1:10 or 1:4 scale, right up to the real size prototype is organised around streamlined, fast, efficient work groups. Thanks to the Centro Stile, for the first time in its history, Lamborghini is now able to create its own style philosophy in-house without having to rely on any external collaboration.

The 20 units will be manufactured in Sant’Agata, using a production process characterised by artisan perfection and rigorous quality standards.
A masterpiece with tested technology

The technology found in the Murcielago LP640 has not been modified. The engine in the LP640 forwards is the classic twelve-cylinder engine with 6.5 liter displacement. Only for this car, Lamborghini guarantees, an astounding 650 HP (478 kW) at 8,000 revolutions per minute (rpm). The huge torque, equal to maximum 660 Nm, ensures a powerful switch from any number of revolutions: even the slightest pressure on the accelerator is spontaneously transformed into thrust. The robotised e.gear changes gear faster than even the most expert driver. In addition, the permanent Viscous Traction four-wheel drive system ensures that every force is constantly translated into movement.

As in the original Murcielago LP640, the Reventon accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, with a maximum speed over 340 km/h.

Born to become a legend

Since its foundation, Lamborghini has been a creator of trends in the world of sports cars and has always manufactured cars with an absolutely unmistakable character. Models such as the Miura or Countach, for example, were veritable forerunners and rapidly acquired the status of timeless classic cars. From the moment they are launched, every new Lamborghini promises to become a legend, destined to become a sought-after and precious possession.

With the Lamborghini Reventón, Lamborghini has done it again; it has created an unequaled super car; the perfect synthesis between the exclusivity and appeal of a limited edition design masterpiece, and the dynamism and drive ability of a standard sports car. Thus, the Lamborghini legend is further enhanced by another, stylish future classic.

Audi AG, Lamborghini’s current owner [1], offers its own sports car based on the Gallardo architecture, the Audi R8, available in spring 2007.

Both vehicles were loaned by Lamborghini London and were fitted with yellow and blue battenburg livery, police logos and a small blue lightbar.t of the ten “Greatest Ferraris of all time”.
