The Troy Lee Designs “Phobia” CX-7 takes the all-new 2007 CX-7 to the extreme by creating a piece of art that uses the CX-7 as the artist’s canvas. The exterior features custom paint by Troy Lee Designs, with paint prep and detailing by L&G Enterprises, paint material by PPG and body modifications by South End Kustoms, to create an exterior design that is truly distinctive. To give the CX-7 a high-performance look and feel, 20″ Volk Wheels, 255/45-20 Yokohama Tires and window tinting by A-1 Tinting were added.

Performance inspiration is derived from Touring GT racing and rally racing. Suspension modification by Eibach Springs, cross-drilled big brake kit by Wilwood Engineering and custom brake fabrication by JD Performance builds upon the CX-7’s already superior handling performance. Other performance components include an off-center hood scoop, bigger turbo with more boost and larger intercooler, wider in-bumper intakes and larger front grille.

Inside, custom leather seats by Katzkin and custom floor mats by Intro-Tech Automotive take the CX-7 to new levels of creativity. And if you didn’t get enough Phobia from the outside, there’s plenty more inside. In addition, an Azentek 2DIN radio replacement PC that includes navigation, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, voice-activated Internet and e-mail capability and an AM/FM radio completes the package.

Launched in May, 2006, the 2007 CX-7 is a highly styled crossover SUV with a decided soul of a sportscar. Produced entirely on Mazda-derived platform architecture, the five-passenger CX-7 embodies an astute blend of sports car verve and SUV practicality, resulting in a fun-to-drive SUV that represents everything a Mazda SUV should be.

Prominent front fenders, A-pillars rooted at the body’s leading edge, a sharply raked windshield and Mazda’s signature five-pointed grille clearly register this new model as a Mazda. CX-7 is fitted with a turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter four-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine similar to that fitted to the MAZDASPEED3, but producing 244 horsepower in this application. Mazda CX-7 delivers an estimated 23 mpg in combined driving.

Inside, the CX-7 is sporty with a high degree of craftsmanship. To draw drivers inside, there’s a three-dial instrument cluster, a console supporting the shifter within close reach, three-spoke steering wheel and firmly contoured front bucket seats, all provided with a high quality feel.

Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States, Canada and Mexico through nearly 900 dealers. Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc., located in Ontario, Canada, and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.

The CX-7 is a mid-size crossover SUV model from Mazda, the production version of the MX-Crossport concept car. The CX-7 is built in Hiroshima, Japan, starting in early 2006. The CX-7 was shown publicly for the first time at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show in January. Production officially began on February 20 at Mazda’s Ujina#2 factory in Hiroshima. The CX-7 went on sale in spring 2006 as a 2007 model. It is also Mazda’s first mid-size SUV since the Navajo was discontinued in 1994.

The CX-7 receives an all-new platform instead of sharing the Ford/Mazda CD3 platform used by the larger Mazda CX-9/Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX crossovers as well as the Mazda6. It uses the front suspension of the Mazda MPV minivan, with the rear suspension from the Mazda5. Many of the all wheel drive components come from the Mazdaspeed 6. It shares its turbocharged engine with the Mazdaspeed6. Its using either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. The CX-7 currently slots between the Tribute and the CX-9.

The 2007 CX-7 is a mid-size crossover SUV model from Mazda, the production version of the MX-Crossport concept car. The CX-7 is built in Hiroshima, Japan, starting in early 2006. The CX-7 was shown publicly for the first time at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show in January. Production officially began on February 20 at Mazda’s Ujina #2 factory in Hiroshima. The CX-7 goes on sale in spring 2006 as a 2007 model. It replaced the Tribute as the company’s small SUV, and competes against the redesigned Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe and Mitsubishi Outlander, as well as newcomers such as the Acura RDX and Ford Edge. It is also Mazda’s first mid-size SUV since the Navajo was discontinued in 1994.

The CX-7 rides on an all-new platform instead of sharing the Ford/Mazda CD3 platform used by the larger Mazda CX-9/Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX crossovers as well as the Mazda6. It uses the front suspension of the Mazda MPV minivan, with the rear suspension from the Mazda5. Many of the all wheel drive components come from the Mazdaspeed 6, as does its turbocharged engine. The only available transmission will be a 6-speed automatic. The CX-7 will slot between Mazda’s upcoming CX-5 and CX-9.

Power comes from the same 2.3 L straight-4 MZR engine used in the Mazdaspeed 6, and tuned to produce 244 hp (182 kW)at 5000 RPM and 258 ft·lbf (350 N·m) of torque at a low 2500 rpm. 99 percent of the maximum torque is available to 5000 rpm.

The CX-7 features fully independent suspension, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with standard anti-lock brakes, stability control and traction control, and a choice of either front wheel drive or Mazda’s Active Torque-Split all wheel drive system. With the Active Torque-Split system, two computer-controlled magnetic clutches feed up to 50 percent of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels. The Mazda CX-7 is estimated to deliver over 23 mpg (10.2 L/100 km) in combined driving.

There are three models:

* Sport is the base version, priced from $24,310
* Touring is the upscale version, priced from $26,060
* Grand Touring is the top version, priced from $28,560
* All models are available with All-Wheel Drive
