Autoblogger Chris Paukert acquired these shots and deets on Nissan’s concept vehicle, the URGE. Reported on Autoblog several times (see here, here, and here), the concept’s specs include a target weight of 2,400 pounds; wheel base similar to the Nissan 350Z (but car length sixteen inches shorter); and a drivetrain consisting of an as-yet-to-be-determined high-revving small-displacement engine and 6-speed manual gearbox. In-car entertainment comes courtesy of two side screens, mp3 player and cell phone docking stations, and, of course, the integrated gaming system powered by Xbox 360.
Nissan announced today that it will build ‘an innovative all-new compact car’ at its Sunderland plant in the UK starting 2010. Not many details were given about the vehicles but Nissan said that the car will be “Building on the success of the Qashqai” hinting that it may be a compact crossover of some sort.
A sketch was released along with the press release that reminds us a lot of the shape of the Nissan Urge concept. Oh and if you remember; while everyone was going crazy over the confirmation of the Infiniti G37 Convertible when Nissan recently announced its mid-term business plan, it also confirmed a ‘mini-SUV.
The new vehicles will take over the production capacity when the production of the current Micra ends in 2010.
The Nissan Urge was shown at the 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The Urge is a concept designed for the Xbox generation, and built for the gadget loving young male. Featuring motorcycle inspired styling the Nissan Urge is an entertainment console on wheels.
The influence of motorcycles on the Urge’s styling can be seen in the extended wheel arches which have been designed to look similar to the wheel covers found on bikes. The open T-bar roof and transparent door panels enhance the open air feeling associated with motorcycle riding.
